El primer (y mejor) álbum de Barry es absolutamente fantástico de principio a fin. Cada pista es un clásico. La primera pista, “Standing in the Shadows of Love”, una cover del un gran éxito de los The Four Tops en 1966, son ocho minutos de pura emoción que supera con creces el original. La pista más popular del álbum es, por supuesto “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby”, un funk clásico. “Bring Back My Yesterday” y “I’ve Found Someone” son también excelentes. Este es quizás uno de los discos debut más fuerte que se puede escuchar. Uno de los mejores soul/funk álbumes jamás registrados.

El vocalista y productor Barry White, nacido en Tejas en 1944, tuvo una de las carreras más exitosas de la historia del pop. A la vez que mantenía su posición como A&R man, desarrolló tareas de producción y fue el artífice del éxito de varios grupos a principios de los 60.
Se crió en el ghetto negro de la ciudad de Los Ángeles. Fue un adolescente alocado y estuvo en la cárcel por robar neumáticos y partes de autos. En prisión decidió cambiar de vida y de amigos.
Tuvo grandes éxitos como intérprete de baladas románticas en los años 60. En 1969 creó el trío Love Unlimited (Amor sin límites). Este título lo tomaría posteriormente para darle nombre a su grupo de acompañamiento, la Love Unlimited Orchestra (Orquesta Amor sin límites)
Cuando finalmente editó su debut en solitario “I’ve Got So Much to Give” (1973), ya nada pudo detenerlo. Durante las décadas siguientes, obtuvo 106 álbumes de oro y 41 de platino, 20 singles de oro y 10 de platino y sus ventas internacionales superaron los 100 millones de copias.
Barry era un artista completo: cantante, compositor, arreglista, director de orquesta y ejecutante musical. A eso debe añadirse la faceta de patrocinador de otros grupos musicales. Por eso lo apodaban “The Maestro”, y es reconocido como un genio de la música. A menudo hacía una sensual introducción hablada a sus temas con una voz gruesa, profunda y varonil. Muchas de sus creaciones musicales eran declaraciones de amor en forma de canciones. En algún momento de su carrera resultó ser el artista mejor pagado del mundo.
Falleció por insuficiencia renal en el 2002.
