William Basie <\/strong>(Red Bank, 21 de agosto de 1904 \u2013 Hollywood, 26 de abril de 1984), conocido como Count Basie<\/strong>, fue director de big band y pianista estadounidense de jazz y en verdad uno de los m\u00fasicos m\u00e1s populares de la historia vinculado, pr\u00e1cticamente durante cincuenta a\u00f1os, a la direcci\u00f3n de una big band de importante influencia en determinados registros estil\u00edsticos del jazz asociados, principalmente, al swing y a su corriente m\u00e1s tradicional.<\/p>\n

Una noche, el productor John Hammond<\/em>, aburrido y cansado de escuchar la misma m\u00fasica de siempre, sali\u00f3 de un ballroom y se meti\u00f3 en su coche. Sintoniz\u00f3 en el dial una emisora de Kansas City, en la cual escuch\u00f3 algo que le dej\u00f3 perplejo. Una banda de Swing que sonaba distinta a todo lo que hab\u00eda escuchado antes. Era Count Basie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hammond<\/em> se fue a Kansas City para conocer a Basie, y qued\u00f3 tan encantado que se decidi\u00f3 a hacer una estrella de \u00e9l, y se lo present\u00f3 a toda la gente influyente de la prensa y de sellos discogr\u00e1ficos. Count Basie <\/strong>abandon\u00f3 Kansas City, actuando en ciudades como Chicago, Boston y Nueva York.<\/p>\n

Lo que encontramos en este post son las grabaciones que realiz\u00f3 para el sello Decca<\/strong> entre 1937 y 1939, y recopila 63 cl\u00e1sicos, en los que se puede apreciar perfectamente lo que Hammond entendi\u00f3 por \u2018diferente\u2019. Durante esos tres a\u00f1os, Basie<\/strong> tambi\u00e9n grab\u00f3 para Columbia, pero casi todos los temas legendarios, y que interpretar\u00eda hasta su muerte en 1984, est\u00e1n aqu\u00ed, junto a memorables versiones de Standards americanos compuestos por Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers & Hart.<\/em><\/p>\n
